Great athleticism and slashing g ability paired with some pretty decent handles make this incoming sophomore hard-to-handle. He could vie for a starting spot with one of 4A’s best teams, and is certainly a top-20 caliber player in 2019, and on the rise.
2018 Blake Brinkmeyer, 6’8 C, Valley
He’s still raw, but his potential is sky high. When he slammed home a standstill dunk over his opponent against Norwalk, it was plain to see that Valley had something special on its hands.
2017 Dariq Myles, 6’3 SF, Des Moines North
This kid is as diverse as it gets; we’ve seen him bang in the post and sky for boards, and we’ve seen him get hot from deep. He was doing a little bit of everything today, and will be an X-factor for the Polar Bears next season.
2017 Tyreke Locure, 5’9 PG Des Moines North
Anybody who pays attention to this website knows that Locure is a special player and that we like him a lot. Well he was his usual special self today, and I got a chance to talk to his dad — a Hurricane Katrina transplant — before the game, and he says Locure is focused on being successful.
2017 Charley Crowley, 6’8 PF, Valley
With each passing tournament Crowley continues to improve, the question is; how good can he ultimately become? Decent height + great poise and execution in the post make him great, and his athleticism is getting better – he dunks with ease now, well above the rim. He looks like a possible low-major Division I player, at least Division II.
2017 Austin Hinkle, 6′ PG, Valley
He could step in and fill the void at starting point guard left behind by Turner Scott. Hinkle is very athletic and fast, he’s able to exploit less-quick guards, and attacks the rim often, he can hit a jumper too, and seldom makes mistakes.
2017 Austin Ash, 6’2 G, Mount Vernon
He was putting on a show all weekend, scoring 43 in a game on Saturday, and then 32 in the game I saw him play against North. He’s without question one of the state’s 10 best shooters, and he could average 25 points per game this season.
2018 Cade Moritz, 6’7 C, Roosevelt
It’s amazing the transformation this kid has gone through over the last six months. He was just another player on a talented Iowa Wolves 16U squad, who was set to maybe start with Norwalk. And now he’s the focal point of a Roosevelt team that could be a serious contender in 4A. Moritz slammed home five dunks in the Riders’ win on Sunday morning,
2018 Jaquon Hemphill, 6’4 G/F, Roosevelt
This kid has a bit of a checkered past with Iowa City West, but he’s set of starting over and creating a new beginning with Roosevelt. He can be really, really good when he’s on, and he was definitely shining on Sunday morning. He was slashing and scoring at the rim, also hitting from deep with a pretty and pure stroke.
2018 Landon Ingle, 6’4 SF, Roosevelt
Another good-sized and strong wing for the ‘Riders, who all-of-a-sudden has several of them. Ingle is a defensive specialist, who is big enough to get buckets around the rim when needed. He could be a a starter for the next two seasons on this suddenly very good Roosvevelt squad.
