Josh Newkirk was a highly regarded point guard prospect in the class of 2013 who originally signed and played at Pittsburh before transferring to Indiana.
Zach Newkirk plays at the same school, Word of God in Raleigh, N. Car. as his brother did and is making a name for himself as well. “Josh really guides me a lot on what I need to do and what I’m gonna have to expect at the next level. He been pushing me since we were little and it’s always made me work even harder coming in his footsteps. We talk to each other a lot since he went off to Indiana, he checks in to see how things are and to give me advice on how to improve my game based on the things he’s been learning at the college level.”
George Mason recently offered the 6’1 point guard his first, “It was a great feeling because I started to feel like all the work was paying off. But it’s really a good opportunity and I’m looking forward to visiting the school after the July period is over.
One of the most prestigious programs in the state, Garner Road Basketball Club is who Newkrik plays his travel basketball with. Garner Road alumni include NBA stars John Wall, David West & TJ Warren. “It’s been going well, I’ve played with Garner Road since I was like 11 & I’ve always loved being apart of the program, but our team has been coming together and I’m expecting a lot of wins in July.
The athletic and fundamentally sound point guard, has a very high basketball IQ, strong basketball bloodline, a scorer who can finish through contact are all aspects of Newkirk’s game. “I feel like the biggest part of my game is my speed, so I like to get out in transition and push the ball every chance I get, I’m a strong finisher at the rim, & my mid range is most consistent.” Zach Newkirk has a bright future ahead of him. He has put in the work and just a matter of time before more offers come his way. Where does he see himself in 2-3 years? “I see myself playing basketball for a college that fits me while getting a free education.”
