Considered among the biggest sleepers in Virginia’s 2017 class, Jacobs is poised to continue his breakout.
Primarily a lockdown on-ball defender, the 6-foot-5 wing owns a blend of length and athleticism along with the ability to efficiently stretch the floor from three point range from the catch and off the bounce. Tahjay recalls playing the game for the first time around age 5, and that’s very evident by the high IQ he displays on both ends of the court.
“I feel l defend the ball well, I can knock down open shots, and I create for my teammates,” said Jacobs. “A lot of people think I shoot the ball a lot, but I can really pass the ball.”
The Citadel and VMI are two schools who currently have Jacobs on their radar. He’s a gym rat, who says he’s working hard to improve each aspect of his game. Steve Jecewiz, Tahjay’s Head Coach at Woodside, raved about the impact he brings to the team.
“He (Tahjay) is a great leader. A great teammate, on and off the floor,” Jecewiz began. “Really gets after it on the defensive end, and his offensive game has come a long way. His ball handling and shooting ability, especially off the bounce has really developed over the past year. I think he’s really ready to make huge strides going forward.”
Coach Jecewiz explained that he would still like to see Tahjay continue his development with the ball, but does not underestimate just how important he will be to their team. As the captain, he will be regarded as a leader, and expected to continue to set an example with his stellar defense.
“He (Tahjay) is going to be a key part of what we do this year,” Jecewiz stated. “During our run down the stretch, we had him on every team’s top player and he completely shut everyone he faced down.”
