Jaylen Hawkins has continued to improve throughout his high school career and at this point there just aren’t many weaknesses left. From the point guard position he can distribute and defend as well as asked but his ever improving jumper has allowed him to be a threat without the ball as well. His 43.8% three point percentage in the UA Association has proven just that.
The April live periods allowed him to highlight what he is best at. “My most efficient parts of my game was my shooting, defense and ball handling.” Like mentioned above, the high shooting percentage was impressive. Jaylen has an extremely quick first step and backs it up with great end to end speed. His ball control was impressive as well with only 4 total turnovers in the 8 games played in the association.
With summer here, he plans on focusing on “getting bigger and working on ball handling.” For someone who will play on the ball more than off at the next level, it’ll be important to tighten the handles up even further. Coupled with his desire to understand the game even more, he’ll be an ideal lead guard for a small college program. Despite having no offers at the moment and playing with some high major guards on Team Beast Mode, there is little doubt he’ll start getting increased interest this summer
Jaylen Hawkins and Scotlandville finished up as the Class 5A Runner-Ups in a tight game with Natchitoches Central for the 3rd straight season. As a starter he put up 8.3 points and 1.5 steals while shooting 45% from the field and 38% from the three point line. This season with two key players graduating, he’ll be looked upon to help carry the load.
