Jay Head is an extremely athletic forward who can be more than a handful in transition or on the offensive glass. He has the ability to handle the ball in the open floor or take larger players off the dribble. After starting the summer in the EYBL, he’ll make the transition to the UA Association for the rest of the year.
During the April live period with the Arkansas Wings, his athleticism and rebounding was evident. “I was very aggressive and defended very well I felt. That kept me on the court a lot longer and kept coaches calling.” He admitted that he didn’t score as well as he would have liked. This summer he plans on tightening up his handles to prepare for a bigger shift to the wing. “Ball handling and getting better on the outside. Ball handling the most.”
The extremely well spoken forward will continue his play with the currently 6-2 Louisiana Elite team that has played well and could use another body down low. His ability to play in the open court will mesh well with the current roster that likes to spread it around. He’s hearing from Arkansas, Louisiana Tech, New Orleans, and Northwestern State and holds some offers already.
We asked him about the next level and would feel remiss to not share what he said, “Being one of the best players at that level and working harder to get to the next level, so I can make my family proud. My mom and family have made some sacrifices so I could have the opportunity to be in an environment where I have been given a chance to grow as an athlete, as well as an individual. I am truly blessed and thankful.”
Standing around 6’7, Head led Ouachita to the semifinals of the LHSAA state playoffs and earned himself LSWA first team all state honors with averages of 14.5 points and 7.7 rebounds a game. He currently has a 3.0 GPA with an 18 on the ACT. He looks the part when on the court and we’re excited to see how he produces this summer.
