Davontavean Martin will have to make a choice at some point whether he wants to play basketball or football at the next level. That’s about all that is certain at the moment. At 6’4 and the ability to get anywhere on the court he desires, opposing coaches have no fun trying to stop him and that’s why he gets to the line at such a high rate even in the EYBL.
In April during the live periods, Martin showed off that ability by getting to the line 26 times in just 4 games played while scoring 11.5 points a game and added 5 rebounds, 2 assists, and 1.8 steals each game. This summer he told us, “I plan on working on my shooting and ball handling because I tend to get away from the basics.” As an extremely gifted athlete, Martin could use some more consistency in his jumper to take him to the next level.
With playing for EP Elite comes an expectation to provide results on the defensive end and that’s somewhere he can excel. This multi-sport star is also a standout wide receiver who has begun receiving division one offers on both the gridiron and the basketball court. Tae recently reopened his commitment after being committed to UNO in basketball and is hearing from schools like Mississippi St, LSU, Arkansas, Southern Miss and UAB with offers from both Southern Miss and UAB being added recently.
Martin is a 6’4 guard who currently has a 2.67 GPA with a 20 on the ACT and was named to the LSWA Class 4A All-State 2nd team with 15.5 points, 7.6 rebounds, 2.9 assists, 2.9 steals, and 0.9 blocks per game. He helped lead Ellender to the 3rd round of the Class 4A LHSAA tournament before losing to eventual champs Bossier 63-61 on the road at the buzzer. His recruitment should be a fun one to watch as he goes through the different options.
