Davantre Vitor’s rise throughout the season and this summer has been a fun one to watch. The 6’2 scoring guard out of Washington-Marion has put up some monster performances this summer after an impressive run in the state tournament. A threat on the offensive end from anywhere on the court, Vitor is beginning to see the fruits of his hard work.
In April, Vitor was able to play in a few tough tournaments with the Lake Charles Cavs and he continued to shoot the ball at an extremely high clip. His quickness made getting to the lane easy and the pull-up jumper is a great compliment to the rest of his game. As he stated, he’ll have to learn to play without the ball even more and finish at the rim at a better rate. There is an undeniable toughness about him when on the court that is common throughout the entire Washington-Marion and LC Cavs roster.
Now that summer has arrived and he’ll have more time to polish up his game, we asked what he planned on working on. Among tightening his handles and improving his explosiveness, he said he wanted to, “install a floater into [his] game.” Being able to finish in the paint over bigger help defenders will mean less over aggressive closeouts on his jumper. With a few seniors gone, he wants to become more of “a leader vocally on the defensive side of the ball,” as well as off the court.
Washington-Marion’s LHSAA 4A state title run was cut short in the finals in their own backyard against another physical team in Bossier. With plenty of key talent returning, they’ll look to make another run and with that comes the chance for Vitor and others to prove themselves yet again. Vitor said, “The most important thing for me getting to the next level is having an opportunity to get a college degree.” Once there, the hard work will continue.
Davantre Vitor has a 2.8 GPA and has yet to take the ACT. He’s heard from Lamar, Grambling, McNeese, Stephen F. Austin, and the University of Dallas. Earlier in the week, Southeastern Louisiana reached out to his AAU coach to express interest as well. After putting up numerous 35+ point performances this summer, we’re excited to see not only what more he can do but who else takes notice.
