Casey Jones Jr. made sure everyone in the state knew he was when it came time for the LHSAA Top 28. He can score at will and showed it off in both games at the Top 28. He picked up a recent offer from an in state school and as he continues to progress, it’s likely he picks up other offers from schools looking for a guard.
As a 5’11 point guard, CJ told us, “I’m really trying to work on my quickness,” when asked about his summer plans. It doesn’t show up as a concern often but as he gets more athletic, he’ll become even more enticing to college coaches. This past season he averaged 23.3 points a game while leading Wossman to a resurgent season in his first year their. His move to Wossman was with his father who took the head coaching job. In the Top 28, he put up 25 points, 4 rebounds, and hit the game winning half court shot (seen below) in the semifinals before scoring 31 points with 4 assists and 3 steals in the championship game.
With the live just past, we asked CJ how he fared with college coaches looking on. His response, “I think I have done a good job getting my team mates involved, especially this past weekend in Houston. My three point percentage has been up there too.” He is interested in going to a school with a good academic reputation and will compete in their conference with a system he fits into. His lone offer is from Northwestern State but he hears from Southern Miss, Dayton, Princeton, UL Monroe, and Campbell on a consistent basis as well.
Jones was named to the LSWA Class 3A First Team All-State after leading Wossman to the 3A finals with wins over Patterson and nearby rivals Peabody before losing to the now three time defending 3A champions University Lab. With most of the team returning, look for Wossman to make another run next season. CJ plays his summer ball with Louisiana Select – Team Millsap and has a 4.0 GPA with a 22 on the ACT and his most recent result pending.
