With the success and exposure generally comes recruitment, and he’s seen some stuff come in lately from one Iowa Division III program and another Nebraska NAIA.
“I got some stuff from Central and Nebraska Wesleyan last week about camps and letting me know I was on their recruiting board,” said Kauzlarich. “ And those have been the only two really.”
Though he does hope to play basketball at the next level. The 6-foot-3 2017 says his recruitment isn’t something he stresses over.
“I really think it’s about having fun and improving my game, and if I play well I think it will take care of itself, but it’s not one of my big priorities,” said Kauzlarich. “I really just want to play well, and I want to win.”
A good-sized wing who can hit a long ball or exploit smaller guards, Kauzlarich says he’s working hard this offseason to develop into a better ball-handler.
“One thing I’ve really worked on is going to the basket and developing my outside shot, definitely my dribbling too is what I’ve been working on mostly,” he said. “Dribbling is the thing I work on first, and then I go into shooting.”
His 17U team, All Iowa Attack Black, continues to wreak-havoc this offseason — including recently winning the Midwest Cup in Ames — and Kauzlarich says it’s because of the team’s great chemistry.
“We play really good team basketball, I wouldn’t say one person really ever dominates. And whenever the other team has to guard five guys it makes it a lot easier for us and a lot more difficult for them,” said Kauzlarich.
“My role is to defend and get rebounds, some tournaments and some games I’ll have to score. Other tournaments I just need to play good defense and get rebounds. What I’m really working on is just to just make my shots and try not to make a bad play.”
