We knew about Kluender — the younger brother of recent Briar Cliff-commit Jake Kluender — last summer, but he’s poised to breakout this offseason with the /Iowa Cornsharks 16U Select squad.
With no college interest to speak of just yet, we’re officially considering the 5-foot-10 floor general under-the-radar. And he’s got very reasonable expectations for what sort of interest he’d like to see come his way by summer’s end.
“I haven’t gotten any letters or any looks or anything like that yet, so hopefully that all starts soon. I’m hoping to see some offers from hopefully some D3 and NAIA schools,” said Kluender.
“And I’m hoping to go for two sports, and maybe play basketball and baseball at that D3 or NAIA level, so we’ll see.”
A very rangy and athletic lead guard, Kluender can impact the game in a variety of ways on both ends of the floor. He defined his playing style to PHI.
“I consider my strengths being a general on the floor. And not having to score all the time to make an impact on the game, but being able to dish and control the tempo of the game,” said Kluender.
“I’m really trying to work on defense this offseason, because we’re going to be lacking a lot of the guys we had a Spencer last season. So we’re going to need somebody to step up for that.”
This summer he’ll be the pacemaker for one of Iowa’s best 16U squads — Iowa Cornsharks Select 16U.
“I’m mostly the guy that just keeps the tempo for this team and I can dish, and if they need me to score late in the game I can do that, and play some defense,” said Kluender. “I’ve been working a lot on my footwork when I shoot and off-the-dribble stuff, so next year should be a lot better shooting year for me.”
