Continue ReadingAyush Mayur, a class of 2018 shooting guard out of Rock Ridge High School in Loudoun County, has quietly built a reputation among the top shooters in Virginia’s 2018 class. The sophomore, who is listed at 6-foot-5, exhibits an outstanding shooting touch from the perimeter featuring a lightning-quick release. He connected on a team-high 43 three-point field goals over the course of the season, including 9 games in which he recorded 3 or more made threes.
Born in Greensboro, North Carolina, Mayur moved to Ashburn, Virginia at a young age where he began picking up the game of basketball around 4th grade. His emerging talents on the court have been mirrored in the classroom, where he sports an immaculate 4.29 GPA. This spring, while running on the AAU circuit with District Basketball Club, he’s displayed improved mobility while doing a nice job mixing it up on the offensive end.
“I’d say I can shoot the ball pretty well from outside,” Mayur began. “I’ve a good pull-up jumper. I can get to the basket once in a while as well.”
Along with his offensive expansion, Mayur exhibits a great motor and strong hands which enable him to be a solid rebounder particularly on the defensive end. He’s worked hard to improve his perceived weaknesses, but admit’s there’s still work to do.
“I think speeding up my defense, getting a little more aggressive, that’s what I’ve been working on. And then getting to the basket and ball-handling as well,” he stated. “I need to improve my aggressiveness, and a lot of ball-handling as well.”
Mayur exhibited a variety of new elements to his game at the DMVelite Super Team Showcase for the District Basketball Club 16U squad, who recorded a 2-0 record vs. Team Takeover Orange and DC Blue Devils. He shot a combined 4 of 7 from three, while averaging 9.5 points, 2.5 rebounds, 1 assist, and 1 steal per contest. Given his high IQ, in conjunction with his size, perimeter touch, and unselfish approach, it won’t be long before Ayush Mayur’s recruitment begins its upward trend.
