The 5-foot-10 point guard injured his right hand recently, and though he can play through it as the summer wears on, it will impact how he approaches the game. But not his will to improve.
“I’ve definitely improved my shooting, although I am playing with a torn ligament in my thumb right now, but I’m improving in my off-the-dribble shooting, off like two bounces. My jumping and my 3-point shooting is what I’ve really been focusing on.”
Holtrey will play the rest of the offseason with his injury taped, and he’s planning to undergo surgery immediately after the grassroots season — and hopefully be ready to play for the start of his senior season.
In the meantime, he’ll be running with Ohio Unity 17U, and hopes to add some offers in addition to the one he received last summer.
“I’ve been down to Taylor (IN) for a visit, and I’ve been offered by Urbana, they offered last August I believe. I’ve also been down to Cedarville, and I’ve talked to several other D2 schools,” said Holtrey.
“I’m trying to get some attention this summer, and some offers.”
Recruitment isn’t all that’s important to the Springboro competitor though.
“Just winning games really is what’s important to me,” he said, “Trying to make the most of my last season of AAU.”
