They dropped their opening game against the LT Rockets but bounced back with wins over Elite Heat (59-45) and Houston Takeover (50-47) in pool play on Saturday.
The Wolves were back at it early Sunday morning picking up a tough, 59-57, win over a talented Primetime Select team and then beat the Louisiana Spartans, 67-55, and Texas Pride, 77-73, in overtime to move on to their fourth game of the day. The Wolves faced New Orleans Elite in the title game and were down 24-16 at halftime but nearly pulled off a win before falling 62-59.
2017s Raylon Hardy and Ryghe Lyons led the way for the Wolves giving the team a strong inside-out combination. Hardy (6-foot) was in constant attack mode for much of the day getting into the paint and finding ways to make plays while Lyons (6-foot-8) made a big impact with his length on defense and also showed a developing offensive game that includes a smooth stroke out to the 3-point line.
Like Hardy, Lusher 2017 G Darnell Butler made his living in the paint as did Warren Easton 2016 G Lindsey Moore. Rummel 2017 W Ashken Stamm also contributed with his strength on the boards and finished strong in the paint on a few occasions as well. Salmen 2017 C/F Mike Young (6-foot-7) and Belle Chasse 2017 W Michael Pataki also provided some length and strength in the paint for the Wolves.
Here’s a look at their four games on Sunday:
