Battle at the Lakes: Saturday Afternoon Standouts
2019 Marcus Domask, 6’5 G/F, Ray Allen Select (Waupun)
He was the best player on a very good Wisconsin-based Ray Allen Select squad. The versatile inside/outisde threat has a big enough frame to manhandle smaller guards in the post and can bang with bigs too. Domask can hit an outside shot and has nice stroke that makes him a threat from 10-20 feet.
2020 LuCye Patterson, 5’9 PG, Minneapolis FAB (Brooklyn Center)
He started with Brooklyn Center’s varsity as an eighth grader (which apparently you can do in MN), and averaged 12 points per game. He’s got plus-vision and his passing ability is off the charts. He’s got tight handles, he’s a floor general and he can knock in a 3-ball. Be on the lookout for this young prospect.
2019 Jayden Littlejohn, 5’9 PG, St. Louis Majestics (MO)
He’s as quick as any guard I’ve seen here this weekend, and has blow-by ability that he uses to set his teammates up for success. He’s not much of a scorer, but did flash a pretty floater, and can score when necessary. He makes sharp, crisp passes through tight spaces and will rack up assists numbers over the next three seasons in Missouri.
2019 Patrick McCaffery, 6’8 G/F, Iowa Barnstormers (Iowa City West)
The more I see of McCaffery, the more I like. He’s not flashy, but he plays smart, and plays well within the offense – you can tell he’s a coach’s son. His great height and length allow him to see over defenders and make passes other can’t, also allows for high-percentage short to mid-range looks off the dribble.
2019 Jake Hilmer, 5’10 PG, Iowa Barnstormers (North Linn)
There was a lot of hype surrounding Hilmer coming into this one and he did not disappoint. It may not have been his best game statistically, but his skill-set was certainly evident. He sees things one step ahead of the opponent, allowing for great finds and buckets for teammates. His passing and court-vision is definitely his best skill, but he’s also a smart floor-general who can score in bunches.
2019 Noah Hart, 6’2 G, Iowa Barnstormers (Waukee)
This was a great pickup for the ‘Stormers, Hart is a quintessential shooting guard with some decent size who lets it fly with confidence. He missed his first shot of the game, and was visibly upset; that was a good indicator of his shooting prowess. He drilled his next one. He’ll be a good scorer for Waukee, and has a nose for the hoop.
2019 Trey Hutcheson, 6’4 SF, Iowa Barnstormers (Linn-Mar)
Like Hart, Hutcheson just seems to have a nose for scoring. He’s a burly and agile small forward, who is likely more comfortable in the paint than on the perimeter, but will hit a mid-range if left open. Most of his buckets came from attacking the hoop. And he’s big and strong enough to hold his own against smaller posts.
