Jones has been a big contributor to the Purple Knights’ success over the last two seasons helping the team to a 47-14 record with two playoff appearances.
As a senior, Jones showcased his ability as a scorer and a playmaker averaging 17.0 points with a team-high 6.5 assists. He also added 5.0 rebounds with 3.0 steals and was one half of a potent backcourt duo that also featured 2017 G Caleb Daniels, the team’s leading scorer at 20.0 points per game.
Jones filled multiple roles for St. Augustine serving as the team’s primary ball handler, a knock-down spot-up shooter and was also one of the team’s top defenders. He has a savvy handle with the basketball that keeps defenders off-balance and although Jones doesn’t get much lift on his jumper, he still releases it with a high arc that often finds the bottom of the net.
During his time with Nike Elfrid Payton Elite on the D1 Circuit, Jones shot 34.4 percent from deep averaging 8.8 points in 22 games and is considering another go-around with EPE this spring as an unsigned senior. Should he play, Jones could see more minutes at the point with 2016 UMass signee De’Jon Jarreau and 2018 PG Javonte Smart no longer in the lineup, which would give colleges a chance to see him in a role that better suits his 6-foot-1, 185-pound frame.
Jones reports a couple of offers with interest from schools such as LSU-Alexandria, Nicholls, Southern, Tulane and UTEP among others. Here’s a look at Jones with Elfrid Payton Elite over the summer of 2015, as well as his game-high 23-point performance in the quarterfinals against Scotlandville:
