Not only was he the starting point guard on one of the more intriguing teams in the CIML as a sophomore, but he has made the leap from Kingdom Hoops’ black team all the up to its elite team for his 16U season.
“I’m just blessed to play with them, I was never on the elite team until this year. And this summer I’m just trying to get an offer from anywhere, Division II, or Division I,” said Musa, who mentioned his recruitment has not started yet.
“I haven’t gotten any letters yet, but hopefully I get some after this summer. Right now I’m just trying to win games with my team so we can get looked at by bigger schools.”
The 5-foot-11 point guard went on to define his playing style to PHI.
“I’m a pass-first point guard , so I get my teammates going before I get myself going, and then after that I get myself going,” he said.
“Right now my strengths are defending and passing, and I need to get a little better with my 3-point shooting and my defending too. I’m trying to change my game to become more of a combo-guard right now.”
While averaging 2.1 points and leading the Roughriders with 2.3 assists per game as a sophomore, Musa says he started to hit his stride mid-season.
“It was my first year playing varsity and I was playing a little bit nervous to start the year,” he said. “But then I got comfortable as the middle of the year came around and we hit our winning streak.”
Musa will be playing with Kingdom Hoops Elite 16U in Dallas this weekend at the Great American Shootout.
