Division I programs are continuing to show interested in the cerebral 2018, including Harvard, and the “Harvard of the West.”
“Davidson sent me a letter last week, so they are still in contact, and picked up interest from George Washington during the season. My coach told me that Loyola and UMBC were asking about me during the season and Loyola came and watched me play a couple games. And then Harvard and Stanford, we talked before the season started,” said Owens.
“My recruitment is definitely one of the main things I’m thinking about, but really I just want to focus on playing my game and see where I can take it from there. But recruitment is a main priority, it’s one of the main reasons why we even play the game.”
Owens will again spend his spring and summer with Maryland 3D, and he’s hoping his momentum from his fantastic sophomore season — 20 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists per game — can spill into his 16U offseason.
“I think I got better overall last season, I became more of a consistent shooter and my scoring was up from last season by like five or six points, and I think my driving and finishing got way better too,” said Owens.
“One of my main goals was to lead the team in rebounding, and I came short of that goal, but I really take pride in my rebounding.”
His role with the star-studded Maryland 3D squad; be a leader.
“So far my coach has asked me to be the leader and he just wants me to just step up and take that role,” said Owens. “And then just basically play my game and try and lead us to as many victories as I can.”
