And though he has yet to pick up an offer, he says some additional Division I and Division II schools are still in hot-pursuit.
“I’m still receiving interest from those schools and as of right now I’m getting interest from Division I and Division II schools, like; Alderson Broaddus, VMI, Gardner-Webb, Florida Southern, and just recently I started getting interest from the College of Charleston,” said Colston.
“College of Charleston is the most recent to reach out to me, and I know Rider and a couple of the D2 schools will be watching me.”
The 6-foot point guard’s goal is to have an offer, or several, by summer’s end. He wants to get a commitment out of the way before he heads into his senior season with the Bengals.
“My recruitment is important to me,” he said. “I don’t want to have to worry about where I want to go my senior year. I want to already be committed and know where I’m going to be headed. So then I can just have fun and play basketball.”
A strong ball-handler who can score and set teammates up for success, Colston is now seeing improvements to his outside game – something he’s been working on.
“My strengths as a player are still attacking off the dribble, and getting to the basket and then finding my teammates when they’re open,” he said. “But over the last couple of months I’ve been really working on my long-range shot and it’s been going in as of late – so that’s something I’m proud of.”
As he heads into the teeth of his 17U season with Maryland Elite, he’s looking to help his team win by any means necessary.
“Over here at Maryland Elite they need me to be a point guard and to lead the team and just help us get as many wins as we can,” said Colston. “Whether it’s scoring, or getting my teammates the ball, or playing defense.”
