The 6-foot-6 forward is looking to grow his game from the middle out.
“I’m just trying to improve my game,” Waggoner told PHI. “I definitely want to improve my jumper and my outside game and my ballhandling, quickness.
“I think I’ve made some strides this spring so far.”
While he’s looking to add more perimeter skill to his game, Waggoner’s strong inside presence was on display earlier this month when PHI saw him at NY2LA’s Spring Extravaganza. He was excellent at creating space on the offensive end and using his size to control the boards. Even the the outside is the focal point of his skill training this grassroots season, Waggoner, whose recruitment is yet to begin in earnest, knows he can’t forget about what he already does well.
“I want to pound my weaknesses – my jumper and my outside game,” he said, “and still touch up and tune up my post-up game.”
That focus on the more guard-oriented skills is a byproduct of Waggoner looking to make the transition from playing sophomore ball with the Maroons last year to varsity this upcoming season.
“I’m just trying to keep pushing the guys ahead of me,” he said.
