After Gary Trent Jr’s large number you have the ten major conference scholarship offers that Sims has received. Auburn, Dayton, Nebraska, Nevada, Texas Tech, UNLV, and Virginia Tech are some of the schools that had offered before Jericho’s junior year.
After his weekend of play in Dallas the number of offers great. Iowa State, Kansas State, Xavier, and the hometown Minnesota Gophers extended. The Gophers offered right after the Dallas event was over.
“Receiving the Gopher scholarship offer was cool because a couple of my family members attended the University of Minnesota,” Jericho said. “My dad on a basketball scholarship and my brother on a football scholarship.”
Jericho’s dad Charles played basketball at Minnesota and is now a local dentist. His brother Dominique played football for the Gophers while another brother Ty played at Kansas State for two years in the last 90s.
Jericho seems to feel that Minnesota is headed in the right direction.
“Being that Minnesota has a talented class and classes behind us I believe that the future is in good hands if we choose to go,” said Jericho speaking of he and other potential recruits.
Sims averaged 22.9 points and 11.9 rebounds a game as a junior during the high school season for an 18 win team and is now playing with D1 Minnesota. Through nine games Jericho is averaging 6.8 points and 5.1 rebounds a game shooting 62 percent from the floor in about 17-20 minutes a game.
“He has rebounded at a very high level,” said D1 Minnesota coach Jericho Sims. “He gets rebounds that no one else has a chance to get because of his freak athleticism.
“Jericho provides a sense of excitement every time he touches the ball in paint because you never know when he going to put somebody in the rim.”
Sims incredible explosive ability starts with his quick sprint up the floor followed by finishes that combine the length of Rodney Williams and the quick bounce of Trevor Mbakwe in a 6-foot-9 frame.
The crazy thing about Jericho is that his upside is higher than just about any prospect out there and he is just now starting to show everybody a piece of what he could potentially be doing in the future.
