His first offer was Oakland after his freshman season. That was followed by Toledo, which offered last summer. And most recently he was offered by University of Detroit Mercy.
Ballantyne is hearing from a host of other programs, including some high majors; Richmond, Akron, Michigan, Stanford, Cleveland State have all reached out.
“A school I personally like a lot is the University of Akron,” said Ballantyne. “I like the coaches there, and I really like the way they play. That’s a school that if they would offer that’d be great. And also Richmond, they are showing a lot of interest in me right now.”
With his summer ahead of him still, The Warren DeLaSalle forward is in no hurry to make a college decision.
“It will be based upon what a couple of my friends do, and also just how I feel about the situation. There’s a lot of good schools and stuff like that, so I just want to take my time and based on how the summer goes I’ll make my decision after that.”
Able to play inside and out, Ballantyne predicates his play in the post, but prides himself on being versatile.
“I think I’m more of a stretch-four, I shoot the ball really well, and I can handle the ball too. I create mismatch programs for other teams, and I pride myself on fundamentals; like ball-fakes, or sealing my guy off at the block, stuff like that,” said Ballantyne.
“I would say I need to work on my body and my athleticism. I want to be able to soar for rebounds and really be able take my athleticism up a notch. And it would really help with my defense, and help to block shots and stuff like that more.”
This summer he’ll be spending his 17U season playing in the EYBL with The Family.
“They’re a really good program, there’s lot of good players on the team right now, like some high-major guys,” said Ballantyne. “My job is to create mismatch problems, spread the floor out, and be aggressive.”
