The 6-foot-1 junior was a model of efficiency last season for the J-Hawks, shooting a blistering 63 percent from the floor — a high percentage usually reserved for dominant posts.
He’s recently started seeing some Division III interest, but that’s it so far.
“A couple of the D3 colleges have contacted me; like Central, and Luther, and Coe — but nothing really besides that,” said Wyant.
“I’ve gotten some emails and I went on a visit to Central a couple months ago, and I have a visit to Luther coming up soon,”
He said his visit to Central went well, and his recruitment is heavy on his mind as his 17U season gets underway.
“The Central visit was really nice, the campus was really nice, and the coaches seemed really knowledgeable. It was good,” said Wyant.
“My recruitment is something I’ve been thinking about plenty, I’m really hoping to play basketball in college.”
The development of his outside shot this past season — he shot 34 percent from deep, up from 28 percent two seasons ago — is one variable Wyant credits for his elite shooting percentage.
“My outside shot has gotten a lot better since last year, and off the dribble as well. I think I took good shots, I tried not to force a lot of shots this year, and I didn’t really need to because I had good teammates all season,” said the talented junior, Iowa’s 42nd-ranked 2017.
“I think I could do better on the defensive end, I could use some work there. And my outside shooting needs some work, it’s still not a strength.”
He’s already played in one tournament this season with a talented Iowa Prep 17U squad, and is eager to spend the rest of the spring and summer playing in tournaments around the Midwest.
“I’m just going to work on my weaknesses, like my 3-point shooting and defense,” said Wyant. “And hopefully get some exposure for college.”
