Still, we caught up with the talented junior — Ohio’s 36th-ranked 2017 — and discussed recruitment.
“I’m still hearing from Miami-Oxford and Dayton, and then Liberty, my teammate went there and they’re looking at me. Also Western Illinois, Findlay, and some others,” said Montague, who later mentioned Hillsdale College and Wheeling Jesuit were also recruiting him.
“I would say Liberty and Miami are recruiting me most. Liberty’s coach came up to school and talked to my coach about me.”
He sustained his injury very late in the season, but Montague was still able to mention vast improvements in two areas of his game.
“I’ve gotten better at making my teammates better around me and my shot has really developed from last year to this year, those are the main two things,” he said.
“I’ll need to work on facilitating the ball more, that’s what colleges are telling me, they want me to make my teammates better, so that’s what I’m really looking for.”
After averaging 14.1 points, 3 assists and 5 rebounds per game throughout the regular season, Montague sustained his injury and was unable to play the last five games.
It was multiple injuries sustained that forced him into surgery; torn ACL, torn meniscus, and sprained MCL. Shortly after he went into surgery.
“Hopefully we’re aiming for a June return, so I can play some AAU and then summer league,” said Montague.
“I’m in therapy twice a week and then days I don’t have therapy I go to the trainers at school so I can try and get back as fast as possible.”
When he does return, he’ll run with King James Coach Bob on his 17U squad.
“Really I just want to get an offer so I don’t have to worry about college and stuff next season,” said Montague. “And then really I just want to get back out and play, it’s been a while.”
