The 6-foot-5 big-man averaged 4.0 blocks per game last season with the Comets as their starting center, but is yet to see any recruitment come his way.
“Nothing at all yet. I’m just going out there to play and we’ll see what happens,” said Lomica. “I’m playing up with 16U because Charles (Young) wanted to get me some better experience and better opportunities for me.”
Last season Lomica played with the Iowa Barnstormers’ 14U squad, but decided to switch back to his original team, Iowa Wolves, this summer.
“I love my coach Charles (Young),” said Lomica. “We have some good size, I think we’ll play very well once we start playing together.”
The shot-blocking extraordinaire explained to PHI what it is that makes him such a dynamic defensive player.
“Probably because I’m so lengthy and I have good explosiveness in my hips,” said Lomica, who explained what his role was with North Polk last season.
“My role was too rebound and play defense, and just take out the other team’s big guy, their strong player.”
Even with his recent dominance as a big-man, Lomica mentioned that he’s going to begin a transition into a wing.
“I’m going to work on offense, and I’m working to transition into a guard. I’m probably not going to grow much more and if I want to get recruited I’m going to have to make a transition here,” said Lomica.
“I’m going to work on my dribble-drive jump-shot, and I have a long ways to go.”
