As he continues to develop his perimeter game, the 6-foot-7 forward becomes more intriguing to college coaches, and his wide-range of suitors leaves the door open for all coaches to check out the talented stretch-four.
“Recently for D1 it has been South Dakota recruiting me a lot, and a little bit of UNI but not a whole lot from them. And then for D2 I’ve seen stuff from Northwest Missouri State and then Upper Iowa, and I just got stuff from Sioux Falls. And then Dordt, and Central College, and Morningside,” said Roetman, who mentioned who is after him most right now.
“USD has been talking to me quite a bit, and Dordt has been in contact quite a bit. I think they want to see how the summer goes to see if I get any D2 offers.”
He went into more detail about his South Dakota recruitment.
“I went up there and watched one of their games last fall,” said Roetman. “And I text one of their assistant coaches quite often.”
As a freshman Roetman was a dominant post for the Indians but still showed glimpses of perimeter skill, connecting on 12 of his 38 3-point attempts. He upped his 3-point total to 22 during his sophomore season, and again that number increased to 24 last season.
He’s working this summer to continue and evolve his perimeter ability, all while continuing to maintain a strong post-presence.
“I’ve worked on shooting a lot, and I’ve gotten better at that. My main thing still is posting up, and pick-and-roll and popping,” said Roetman, Iowa’s 15th-ranked 2017.
“I’d like to be more of a small forward-type guy, but playing the power forward position will be helpful at the next level because that’s where I’ll probably play most at.”
After playing with Tryon Gym last summer for his 16U season, Roetman has decided to team up with Lefty Moore again and play with All Iowa Attack’s top 17U squad — a supremely talented group that could achieve great success this summer.
“My role is to play defense and get boards with Attack, and then pick-and-roll and just do what I can,” said Roetman, who further discussed his recruitment.
“It’s the top thing on my mind every time I go on the basketball court. I just go out there and play as hard as I can because you never know who is watching you.”
