Continue ReadingWith a bloodline of basketball greatness and an already intact skill-set that surpasses many of his peers, Grandview Christian forward Arturo Montes is quickly becoming one of 2019’s most intriguing prospects.
He was a pivotal piece to the Thunder’s state tournament run last season, playing starter’s minutes while coming off the bench as the sixth-man. And though his recruitment has not started yet, it’s just a matter of time before the broad-shouldered freshman gets noticed.
“I want to go to college here, some college, Division II, Division III, Division I, I don’t know. I have to work hard for that. I have to work this summer a lot,” said Montes, who defined his playing style to PHI.
“My strength is moving the ball, passing the ball and shooting 15-footers. I’m thought I played OK last season, I sprained my ankle twice during the season so I was never really 100 percent.”
Montes’ father played with Mexican National Team 20-plus years ago as wing, a shooter. That’s something Arturo is hoping to develop into.
“I think 1992 is when he started to play with the Mexican National Team, and he played in a lot of international tournaments, he was 6-foot-8 and he played the three, he was a shooter,” said Montes.
“I want to be a three, I don’t want to be a four. I’m not tall enough to be a four. I can be a shooter, but I have to practice a lot, so I need to work on it. Every single day I shoot, except Saturdays.”
The stock-riser is spending his 15U spring and Summer playing with Kingdom Hoops 1. He’s got one simple goal.
“I just want to get better with this team,” said Montes.
