Had a dozen points, eight boards, and never stopped working defensively as Central Minnesota Christian moved on to the next round with a 50-32 victory.
Nick Fossey (6-ft-0, 2016). Most have never head of this senior before. At state he makes a name for himself defending Brad Davison with a huge effort and then tonight Nick put the game away from the foul line continually scoring both in the set and then looking to the crowd with a stare or a flex. Also had the game winning steal for Lakeville North. Likely will be a guy on all defensive teams if they come out.
Xavier Johnson (5-ft-11, 2016). This is a breakout performance. Hopkins Royal Xavier scored 11 quick points and is showing Minnesota that his offensive capabilities stretch much past the corner three-point explosions and some attacks. Johnson has a lot more in his bag of tricks than people realized but they know it after tonight when he scored 24. People from around the state asked all game long who he is and will he be on a division one roster sooner or later. For now let’s just watch and see how things go Saturday but Xavier is an exciting player.
Rob McClain (6-ft-4, 2017). If there was a list of guys with most double-doubles in state Rob would be there. Rob averaged 16 points and 12 rebounds and in today’s game he had 11 and 11 as Browerville had no player that could rotate over and box him out. Has good size at 6-foot-4 totaled nearly five steals a game this season, and is also the school’s playmaker at seven assists a contest. Totaled eight assists today too. Heart of the Red Lake squad.
Ben Munson (6-ft-0, 2016). This is his second day on this list, time to get Red Wing’s Ben Munson a spot to play in come fall of 2016. He followed up a strong quarterfinal with a team high 17 in the semi-finals making one clutch three late, keeping his team close with double figures in the first half, and then almost tying the game at the buzzer but his trey was a second too late for Red Wing. Made many of these shots while being hotly contested and there is no doubt that Ben belongs on a college roster next fall.
Nathan Rund (6-ft-0, 2018). Rund is a known name, he averaged 17.2 points per game on a top team in Minnesota this year. But as far as being one of the toughest and most talented guards in Minnesota? That is what we learned today. His gutsy pull-up three to push his team up 46-40 and then the trey to give his team a 49-40 lead completely stopped Red Wing momentum and showed everybody that he has the guts to step forward and make a major impact when it’s needed. Scored 23 for Fergus Falls and hit four treys as well as nine of ten foul shots.
