With a very young roster surrounding him, Norvel led Salmen to a 18 wins on the season, a share of the District 8-4A title and a near upset over No. 13 Ben Franklin in the first round of the playoffs (45-44).
Norvel is a strong lead guard with a good handle and his athleticism may be a bit undervalued. He’s able to change speeds quickly to get by defenders and is capable of finishing with either hand at the rim. His best attribute, however, may be his ability to run a team and distribute to the playmakers around him. Even with a young group at his side, Norvel consistently tried to find ways to set up his teammates and get them easy shots.
At 6-foot-1, 165 pounds, Norvel is also a capable jump shooter, a willing defender and routinely makes the type of plays that don’t always show up on a stat sheet. He was hearing from programs such as Southeastern, Oral Roberts and Xavier (LA) but recently committed to LSU-Alexandria, one of the top NAIA programs in the country.
Here’s a look at what Norvel was able to get done in two games this season for the Spartans, plus performances in the Prep Hoops Louisiana Combine and the Pelican State Showcase in September 2015:
