Recruiting Report: Troy Morgan (2017)
Clarke’s 5-foot-10 point guard Troy Morgan is coming off another nice season with the Indians, but still has been neglected by area colleges.
If his hoops recruitment doesn’t start soon, Morgan says he may try something new next season in addition to basketball — on the gridiron.
“I haven’t seen anything yet for recruitment, not that I’ve seen. I think I’m a little bit under the radar right now, but I haven’t really played to my potential yet, so once I start playing like I know I can the recruitment will come in — at least I hope so,” said Morgan.
“I was thinking about possibly football next year if I don’t get any basketball interest.”
Morgan says he might play with Iowa Thunder this summer for his 17U grassroots season, and his high school team will try and enter in some tournaments. He’s also planning on attending a specialty point guard camp.
“Last season I played (with Southern Iowa Cornsharks) but we didn’t win as much as I would have liked. It did help me improve for sure, but I think what I’m going to do this summer is go to a point guard camp with my coach,” said Morgan, PHI’s 113th-ranked 2017.
“My coach really wants me to go to it, I know some other guys that went and really liked it, so I think it would be a good option for me.”
The talented junior point guard tells PHI that he’d like to work on his fundamental guard skills this summer, and explained his current style of play.
“I’m a pretty good shooter, and I thought I shot well this season, and I can handle the ball pretty well and get to the hoop” said Morgan, who says his role this season was to be a leader.
“My coach just needed me to be a leader on the court and I think I did an alright job at that,” said Morgan, who averaged 15.8 points and 5.3 rebounds per game. “And they just needed me to be a scorer, which I did.”
