“The record didn’t show anything special, I believe we ended 12-15, but we were a young team with a couple freshmen and sophomore playing varsity,” PJ told NHR about his senior year.
“Honestly what I will remember most would probably be the practices. This year, opposed to the last few, had a little more energy to them which made them more competitive but also more enjoyable. So overall it was still a fun year, I mean I was still playing the sport I love so that in itself is a treat.”
PJ gave his team 15 points and eight boards a game including a memorable game of 26 points beating Rochester Century by 25 points. With a young team around him PJ improved in many other ways.
“I’d say my court vision improved the most, probably because some teams might have focused on me a little more than the other kids because they knew who I was and that I could score, so I’d find my teammates cutting to the basket or if I drove and drew attention someone would be down by the block for a quick dish,” PJ said.
“So my court vision and passing probably grew the most. Little things like shooting and ball handling got a bit better too. However, those two, mainly ball handling, will need the most work for college. I need to get more confident and more in control when I am dribbling the ball.”
Appicelli was considering schools in the NAIA, D3, and D2 Appicelli recently accepted a spot with the local club.
“I was hearing from D3 schools like St. Scholastica, St. Marys, and Gustavus. For D2, Jamestown in North Dakota was talking to me, UMD talked to me in the summer but I’m not sure what happened there but I haven’t heard anything from them since. I was talking to Gustavus the most.
“I was also talking to Winona State to get a meeting lined up with Coach Eisner to see if I could have a spot on the team and after I met with the WSU coach on Friday morning I decided to play with them.”
