Smith-Drahos even has his own website (http://www.maxsmithdrahos.com/) that serves as a hub for college coaches to see his highlights and hear what other coaches have said about his game.
His proactive approach to his recruitment in addition to his sheer talent have generated some area college interest.
“I have a NCSA recruiting profile and I have a website. I’ve gotten some letters from University of Chicago and Drake, and then Coe and Wartburg are kind of interested in me too,” said Smith-Drahos.
“Drake has sent me a couple letters, just saying I have caught their attention, and they’re interested in me. And I’ll be headed to their elite camp this summer.”
The talented junior led the Hawks in scoring this season as a junior, as well as last season as a sophomore. He described his strengths as a player to PHI.
“I think that on offense my biggest strength is penetrating, getting to the basket and finishing. And I think on defense I’m just a solid defender and I pride myself on not letting my guy score, and getting stops,” said Smith-Drahos.
“This summer I’m going to be working on my jump-shot a lot, I consider that my biggest weakness.”
He explained what his role was this past season with the Hawks, a season where he averaged 15.2 points and 4.6 rebounds per game.
“Last year as a sophomore I played varsity and led the team in scoring. And this year I had more confidence, and my ball-handling improved so I just tried to help my team score and I was the guy that my teammates really tried to get the ball to,” said Smith-Drahos, who is looking forward to his 17U spring and summer with Iowa Dynasty
“I hardly had any recruitment coming into my junior season, and it picked up quite a bit, so I like how it’s going,” said Smith-Drahos. “But this summer I’m hoping to impress some people and get some more colleges looking my way.”
