Continue ReadingThough Carroll guard Kolby Molinksy is a star on the gridiron as well as on the hardwood, he’s recently decided that he’ll pursue his basketball dreams as he heads into his most important offseason of his career.
The 6-foot-2 quarterback has heard from some Division I and Division II football programs, but says that he enjoys playing basketball more than football.
“I’ve made the decision that I’ll be pursuing basketball after college,” said Molinksy. “I’ve heard from schools like Drake, Northwest Missouri State, and Winona State for football, but I just feel that I enjoy basketball more and I want to pursue that.”
The talented 2017 has been hearing from plenty of hoops programs since last summer, mainly NAIA and Division II programs. But he has been hearing from one area D1 program too.
“I’ve been starting to hear from Briair Cliff, Sioux Falls, Minnesota State and Minot State. And towards the end of last season I started hearing from UNI. I know that’s probably a long shot, but you never know when your just going to start playing great at the right time. At this point the summer is going to be big for my recruitment,” said Molinksy who says he received several handwritten letters from a member of the Panthers’ staff.
A highly skilled shooter with the ability the handle the ball, Molinksy is currently Iowa’s 23rd-ranked 2017. He says he really sharpened his ability to finish at the hoop since last summer.
“I feel like I’ve developed a lot in finishing at the hoop, I feel like that was a weakness last summer. So I really focused on that throughout this year. And in the past I feel like I’ve been known as being a shooter and a scorer, and just being able to handle the ball. And I like to think of myself as a playmaker and a guy who can facilitate with whoever I’m playing with,” said Molinksy, who averaged a team high 17 points this past season.
After a 9-15 season with plenty of close losses, Molinsky says he and his Tigers will learn from the tough winter and improve next season.
“We were a young team this year and I feel like we’ll bring back a lot of talent next year and a lot of experience. And we’ll just have to focus on learning from this year a lot,” said Molinksy, who mentioned what his goals are as he heads into his 17U summer with All Iowa Attack Nike.
“I’d really like to lock in that first offer from a school. I’ve been hearing from schools here and there, but I’d really like to get that one lock.”
