The 6-foot-6 forward averaged 9.2 points on tremendous shooting (51%, 46%, 83%), and was the team’s second leading shot-blocker and rebounder.
He checks in a No.9 in our first ever 2019 prospect rankings, and though he says he’s not been recruited at all just yet, it’s only a matter of time before he starts getting some serious looks.
“To be honest I really haven’t thought about my recruitment a whole lot. I feel like I have a lot to work on before I can even start thinking about all that stuff,” said Betz, a Kingdom Hoops product.
“I’d like to work on my ball-handling a lot with my brother Tyler and with John (Lamb). I want to be able to get the ball on the wing and get to the hoop the best I can. And I’m going to work on my pullup jump-shot and my quickness — stuff like that.”
The talented forward described his strengths and weaknesses to PHI, and says honing his perimeter skills will be a priority for him this spring and summer.
“I’m a pretty good shooter and I’ve been working on that, and if I get the ball in the post I can score left or right-handed. I’ve been working on my 15-foot jump shot – I just want to be able to score from anywhere,” said Betz.
“I need to work on my ball-handling a lot, that’s what I’d like to work on this summer.”
With his solid freshman season coming to an end recently, Betz reflected on what his role was with the team this winter.
“They just needed me to crash the boards, and to just attack and get to the hoop as best I could. I thought I rebounded well and played aggressive,” said Betz.
“I didn’t overachieve what I was planning to do, I just wanted to come out and play the best that I could.”
