He’s coming off a nice year at Cedar Rapids Kennedy, where he was the team’s leading scorer, and is entering a critical offseason where coaches should start to notice the talented guard.
But as of right now, Diggins says his recruitment is non-existent.
“No, not really anything right now. I’m just trying to get myself out there,” said the 6-foot guard.
“I just got to improve and if I can keep my grades tight and improve my game then I can get myself recruited at a higher rate than I am right now.”
He’s played with Team Iowa during past offseasons, and he’s been happy with them. But it sounds like there’s a chance he’ll play elsewhere this spring and summer.
“They’ll (Team Iowa) always be my number one program, but a couple other teams are asking me to play with them right now. So I don’t’ really know yet. I’m just trying to get that all figured out.”
Diggins describes himself as more of an off-guard at this stage of his career, that’s where he feels most comfortable.
He defined his playing style to PHI.
“I’m best at just seeing the floor and my awareness on defense and offense. And then the way I attack the rim and get other people shots,” he said.
“Something that I really need to improve on is my shooting and my leadership. I do a good job of leading myself and having high expectations of myself, but I need to have high expectations of my teammates.”
After averaging 12.6 points and 4.0 rebounds per game this season with the Cougars, Diggins was able to reflect on his sophomore season.
“Night-in, night-out they asked me to get people open shots and attack whenever I can. And my coach wanted me to come off screens better and faster,” said Diggins.
“It had its ups and downs. I was happy with how I played, but I was never satisfied. I think I thought sometimes that certain games were more important than others, but I learned that every game was as important as the next.”
