Braham built a nice lead and maintained it for the whole game. A 38-29 halftime lead was led by 14 from senior Chris Olson… he was playing like he wanted this one badly.
Maple River hung around in the second half, but with no real scoring threat that got hot and the constant barrage from Braham’s wings, they couldn’t recover. 12 Maple River turnovers compared to Braham’s 6 hurts, as the two teams shot within one percent of each other from the floor. Chris Olson’s 23 led all scorers.
Player Notes
Chris Olson, Braham — The leading scorer for Braham had 14 points in the first half, shooting 50% from the field and playing with a spark. Love how he plays with passion and a winning edge, and I really love the arc on his jumper. Expect a shootout on the perimeter between him and Rovney on Friday.
Will Keller, Maple River — 6-foot-5 senior who has really improved since I saw him in the last state tournament. More assertive, more confident. Last year he had physical tools but seemed a bit nervous. Last I heard, he was leaning towards playing at Gustavus next year.
Ryan Larson, Braham — Shifty young guard who looks like he’ll be the main guy for Braham after this year. Had some big section games but was quieter in this one. Has a certain quick-twitch factor to him in decision-making and scoring.
Brandon Sohre, Maple River — Turned around a tough first half (just 1-6 from the field) and ended up with 13 for the game. Got some jumpers off in the second to try and mount a comeback.
John Larson, Braham — We’ve known about him for a while, going back to his D1 MN days. He’s just a hard-playing, tough-nosed kid who plays QB in the fall and is a nice hoops component in the winter. Plays with familiarity around kids he’s known his whole life, and it shows. 19 total points on 8-14 shooting.
Connor Tschumper, Braham — Braham’s 6-foot-3, Clay Matthews look-a-like who doesn’t score much (he leaves that to the other four starters) and instead grinds down low. He’s a tough guy who will face a much harder post test when he takes on St. Croix Lutheran on Friday.
