Valley’s size and intensity was overwhelming in the third quarter, and by the fourth quarter the Tigers were able to get their reserves some valuable playing experience in the 70-38 rout.
Top-5 2017 Quinton Curry was out-muscling and out-rebounding the J-Hawks all night en route to a game high 22 points – he made it look easy.
Turner Scott was effective throughout – per usual – and didn’t have to assert himself too much to make an impact in the blowout.
The Tigers – whose last game was a loss to rival Dowling – look like a team poised to compete for a state title. Maybe that loss to Dowling was more of a wake-up call, then it was a red-flag.

Valley Player Evaluations
2016 Pete Economos, 5’10 G
He was impressive tonight despite his lack of offensive output – it was not needed tonight anyways. Known as a sharpshooter, Economos was strikingly adept with his court vision, awareness, and precision passing. He’s no one trick pony, he’ll hurt you in a variety of ways.
2016 Carlo Marble, 6’5 SF
He told us in the fall he may be leaning towards football in college, and he’s still offer-less for basketball. His strength is certainly his athleticism, he has a D1 frame, and hops. He was very effective defensively tonight as well, poking away the ball several times from Urbandale – a move that gets less suave players into foul trouble. His smooth and effortless Euro-step in the second quarter was a thing a beauty, but he couldn’t get the lay-in to drop – there was a lid on the hoop tonight for Marble.
2017 Quinton Curry, 6’6 SF
Curry was his usual self tonight, a beast. He was bigger, faster, and stronger than anyone the opponent could throw at him, and he made them pay. He’s especially adept from 10-feet and it, bur is continuing to master his outside shot, nailing his only attempt from deep. He’s got a critical spring and summer ahead of him with Kingdom Hoops Elite – look for D1 offers to potentially start rolling in.
2017 Reese Skinner, 6′ SG
I get the feeling that Skinner is in for a big year next season. He’s played in all 16 games for the Tigers this season, and will certainly be an important role player the rest of the way. But with the departure of Turner Scott and Economos next season, it could be Skinner who slides in as the team’s go-to deep-threat. He’s was certainly stroking it well tonight, going for eight points in the second half alone.
Urbandale Player Evaluations
2016 Kyle Hart, 6’2 G
Hart was feeling it early from beyond the arc, hitting three early 3s, and almost single-handedly kept the J-Hawks alive in the first 10 minutes. He ended with 15 points, all from 3s. He’s clearly the go-to guy on the team offensively, and has a quick first step to go along with his adept 3-point shooting. He’s committed to play at NAIA Doane College in Nebraska.
2017 Trevor Miller, 6’4 SF
A long and rangy wing, Miller certainly looks the part. He’s big enough to disrupt passing lanes and be effective on both ends of glass. But he needs to add some muscle, and become stronger with the ball.
2018 Eric Milewsky, 5’10 G
The young guard is quick, and aggressive. All of his points came from the line, where he spent more time than any of his teammates. He likes to attack the basket, so I didn’t get a good look at his outside game. But he could develop into a very nice player for the J-Hawks over the next two seasons.
2019 Grant Garwood, 6’4 SF
He’s got some good size for a freshman, and has been very productive this season for the J-Hawks. But tonight he was timid, and after a bad miss on his first shot-attempt, he looked to pass the rest of the game. We’ll chalk this up as a bad night; he’ll be in the 2019 rankings when they are released later this month.
