ADM got down early, but clawed back in the first quarter, and Matt Larson connected on a silky 3-pointer to beat the first quarter buzzer and give his Tigers a one point lead.
The lead was short-lived, and the Tigers’ only lead of the game. Boone continually played stout defense, and aggressive offense, and the Tigers could not get over the hump.
Junior guard Tanner Schminke was outstanding for the Toreadors, he poured in a game-high 19 points. Sophomore shooting guard Tanner VanPelt scored 13 points, including three 3s, to aid his team in the upset win. Junior guard Ethan Lewis added 13 also.
Tajen Ross showed flashes of why he’s the 37th-ranked player in 2017, and scored a team high 16 for the Tigers. But shots weren’t falling for the rest of the guys. The trio of Ross, Larson, and Payton Conrad will make up one of the more talented threesomes in 3A next season.

Boone Player Evaluations
2017 Tanner Schminke, 5’11 G
He was a fearless leader and a bull tonight, routinely making his way into the paint and using his good build to finish through contact. He also hit two critical triples, and hit countless free throws late to help seal the win. He was never rattled and always confident. Currently unranked, he’ll find himself in the next 2017 installment.
2018 Johnathan Herrick, 6’6 SF
The sophomore was not much of a factor tonight, battling foul trouble in the first half, and giving way to his team’s upperclassmen prowess in the second half. But the fact remains that he’s a 6’6 wing with an ability to make plays inside and out. You might want to get an early track in his recruitment. He’ll be playing with the 16U Iowa Wolves this summer.
2018 Tanner Van Pelt, 6′ G
He was the X-factor tonight in the Toreadors win, and although he averages just 6.4 points per game this season, he rained in 13 in this one — including three huge 3-balls. He’s been especially hot of late, particularly in the last two weeks. Perry might want to keep an eye on him come Thursday.
2017 Ethan Lewis, 5’10 G
He and Schminke are interchangeable at the guard positions and both are equally adept at running the show, and taking over the offense. Lewis was clutch tonight, hitting free throws late, and taking over ball-handling duties in critical situations. He’s turning into a formidable prospect in 2017.
ADM Player Evaluations
2017 Payton Conrad, 5’11 PG
It was our first look at Conrad, and though it likely wasn’t his best night, it’s clear to see his skill and potential. He’s a smooth and fundamental guard, with a quick and effective crossover. His shot was off tonight, but he has good form, and he sees the floor well. Keep an eye of this talented point guard with Kingdom Hoops this summer.
2017 Tajen Ross, 6’1 G
Probably the most skilled guard of the terrific trio, Ross showed great savvy, and skill. His awareness and court vision are both much better than average, and his passing is plus as well. His shot wasn’t falling, but it’s evident he ‘s a good shooter to boot. He’s stronger than he looks, and finishes well through contact. He could develop into a Division II talent.
2017 Matthew Larson, 5’11 G
He was the main-man last season for the Tigers, and he’s certainly good enough to run the show on most teams in the state. The emergence the two transfers (Ross, Conrad) has made Larson’s role decrease, but he’s still a supremely talented player — a natural. He’s not the tallest, and he’s a bit thin, but his skill level is off the charts, and he could certainly be a serviceable D3 or NAIA guard.
