The Maryland Public Secondary Schools Athletic Association will seed the various regions — there are four in each of the four classes in the state — on Tuesday. Those results will be listed on its web site (mpssaa.org) later that morning with regional action starting next Friday, Feb. 26.
That opening round is scheduled for play on Friday or Saturday. Those games will be the section quarterfinals with the semifinals going Monday, Feb. 29 (for boys) and Tuesday (for girls).
After that comes the section finals on Wednesday (for boys) and Thursday (for girls). The next round is the region finals, set for Friday or Saturday.
Those winners earn trips to the state final four. The girls play those at Towson University’s SECU Arena with the semifinals going Thursday and Friday (March 10 and 11) and the four championship games on Saturday, March, 12.
It’s the same schedule for the boys, except they’ll play at the University of Maryland’s Xfinity Center. The boys and girls each will do the Class 3A and 4A semifinals on Thursday with Class 1A and 2A on Friday.
The four state championship games go in this order — for the boys, it’s Class 1A (1 p.m.), 3A (3 p.m.), 2A (6 p.m.) and 4A (8 p.m.). For the girls, it’s Class 2A, then 4A, 1A and 3A at the same four times as in College Park.
