The 5-foot-11 point guard is currently undecided whether he wants to pursue hoops or football in college, and right now, his football interest is more serious.
“I’m trying to decide whether I want to play football or basketball right now,” said Jungling. “It’s going to be a tough decision, but I definitely want to play one of the two.”
Jungling says Iowa, Iowa State, Western Illinois, Eastern Illinois, and Northern Iowa are all recruiting him as a slot receiver for football. His interest for hoops has been mostly from smaller schools.
“Right now it’s just texts and letters from NAIA schools like Dordt, and Northwestern (IA). And then Central has reached out a little bit. Northwest Missouri State’s coaches have texted a few times, and called. But nothing too serious yet,” said Jungling, who is receiving some low-major Division I mail.
“South Dakota, and Western Illinois have sent some letters to me too.”
He added: “I’d say definitely Dordt would probably be the closest (to offering), their coach texts me quite a bit and calls me, he wants me to come for a visit. And Northwest Missouri State has called quite a few times, and Central too.”
He’ll play his 17U season with Pella-based grassroots program Shoot It!, and says the goal is just to become a better player.
“My main goal is just to become a better basketball player, to help my team next year, and whatever comes, comes. I’m more interested in finding the right college for what I need to accomplish in life, rather than playing at the highest level of basketball.”
Jungling went on to describe his playing style to PHI, and what it is he’s working to improve right now.
“Right now I think my best strength is my ability to shoot the ball, and I think I’ve gotten a lot better at shooting off the dribble. And I also feel like I’ve gotten a little bit stronger since last season, when teams start overplaying my 3-point shot I’m able to get to the hole and attack the basket, and finish a lot stronger,” said Jungling.
“I’d say my defense needs to improve, just being able to guard the other team’s best player I think would be key for our team.”
This season the star point guard is averaging 22.5 points, 6.4 rebounds, and 2.9 assists per game for the Eagles, he explained his role with the team.
“This year we only have a few seniors on the team,” said Jungling. “And I feel like my skills have improved enough that I can really be a leader for the team, and just carry the team a little bit and score for us and get things going on offense.”
