The 6-foot sophomore is being monitored by high-major Division I programs, and though nothing is too serious right now, it seems likely that his recruitment will pick up this offseason.
“I’ve been on two visits to Ohio State. I went on one the first day of school and met the coaches and the players. And I went to a football game too, and met all the players and went to a practice earlier in the day. And I went on a visit to Penn also,” said Strait, who mentioned Iowa State, Iowa Drake, and North Dakota have all inquired.
“Iowa State called my AAU coach, and Iowa talked to (former player) Josh Oglesby about me. Me and Josh are pretty close, he went to Washington too, and he gave them my number. And then Drake came and watched an open gym toward the end of the summer.”
Strait added: “I think Penn and Ohio State are the schools I’m hearing the most from right now. I recently talked with Ohio State on the phone because I’m setting up a visit to go to another game.”
After a slow start to his sophomore season with the Warriors, Strait picked up his production after the winter break — it was a conscious effort on his part.
“At the beginning of the year I didn’t play good at all, and after Christmas Break I really just started playing my game,” he said. “My role is to get people open, and if that’s not there then I can score. And if I get a steal or if I’m in transition I feel like I can score. And I can call ball-screens and get myself open to score too.”
Strait ended his season with averages of 12.9 points and 3.3 rebounds per game, and he’ll carry the momentum of his regular season into his offseason – where he’ll play with Team Iowa’s 17U Team.
“We’re an Under Armour grassroots team now so we’re going to be playing in some better tournaments. And for me I just want to get an offer this summer, or at least a lot more looks,” said Strait. ”And if the schools that are already looking at me could get a lot more aggressive, that would make for a good summer.”
