Continue ReadingMaple Grove lead guard Brad Davison has spent his winter setting records and leading his team to victories. After ten games fellow Crimson junior Tywhon Pickford was the Maple Grove leading scorer while Davison was leading the state in assists and was the team’s second leading scorer.
Then Pickford went down and Davison had to shoulder more of the scoring lead and he has done that in a big way. Davison is averaging 20.4 points per game (up four a night overall since Tywhon went down) plus grabbing six boards a contest with 7.8 assists per game (second in state).
Brad is now in the Maple Grove record books with the single season greatest scoring total having put up 510 points so far breaking the record of Mike Moberg (played at Albany and then transferred to Bethel). Brad is also the all time leading scorer in Maple Grove history with 1,392 career points as well as the school’s all time leader in assists, steals, and total wins.
The Crimson? They are about where most expected them to be with a 22-3 record ranked 4th in the state. If you ask the Maple Grove players they likely expected to be a game or maybe two better battling Osseo for the conference title but they have a chance to get one of their three losses back (#1 Osseo, #3 Apple Valley, an Centennial) this Friday when they host rival Osseo in a rematch of the 78-75 game from last month (Davison scored a massive 35 points with six assists in the loss).
“We have had our ups and downs this year with injuries but we are all adapting to our new roles,” said Davison when he talked to NHR last week. “Our team is excited because if we keep improving and take every game, one game at a time, we are gearing up to be playing our best ball at the end of the season!
“The most important thing for our team is to have everybody playing with confidence and to be aggressive on both ends of the floor heading into the playoffs.”
Davison’s offer list includes Nebraska, Northern Iowa, Buffalo, Furman, South Dakota, South Dakota State, and Winthrop. Davison continues to hear from those programs and others.
“The schools I hear from the most are Northern Iowa, Wisconsin, Nebraska, Stanford, North Dakota State, Davidson, and South Dakota State. I do not have any visits planned (for the winter), just trying to focus on finishing the season strong.”
Wisconsin Head Coach Greg Gard recently watched Davison play McKinley Wright at Champlin Park in a game where Davison scored 26 points and led the Crimson to one of their top wins of the season (they have also beat Wayzata, Iowa City West, Milwaukee Riverside, Elk River, Armstrong, and others).
Davison and the Crimson play number one ranked Osseo this Friday at 7:30 in a game that will have all the eyes of the state watching close.
