The favorite: 4A’s highest scoring offense belongs to Linn-Mar, paced by Iowa commit Jordan Bohannon’s class-leading 25.3 pints a game. The Lions also get solid contributions from Beau Klostermann (13.9) and Jared Printy (13.0), and they shoot 41.1% from the arc as a team, making them arguably the best shooting team in the class. They don’t have much size, which could become an issue at some point, but with their trio of scorers, they will make a run. Bohannon doesn’t want to become the only Bohannon brother without a state tournament appearance.
The biggest threat: Since Treyshawn Labeaux re-joined the Cedar Falls varsity roster on January 12th, the Tigers have only lost one game, that coming to powerhouse Iowa City West. They’re the top seeded team in the substate, and they’ve got an extremely talented trio in Labeaux (10.2), guard A.J. Green (17.0) and forward Tra’Von Fagan (19.0). Labeaux and Fagan can dominate the glass and score efficiently in the paint, while Green has been one of the state’s best scorers and shooters this season. In their only meeting with Linn-Mar this season, the Tigers lost by 8, but that game was played without Labeaux in the lineup.
The dark horse: Coach Jon McKowen has his Cedar Rapids Kennedy team peaking late, winners of five straight. The Cougars lost a lot of talent from last year’s team, and it took a while to replace them, but they’re a dangerous group. McKowen’s constant mixing of defenses can cause issues for teams, and the duo of Derrick Diggins and Drake Brewster can score in bunches when they get going.

SUBSTATE FINAL PREDICTION
Cedar Falls vs. Linn-Mar
In what figures to be an up-tempo game, we give Linn-Mar the slightest edge. Playing in Cedar Rapids, the Lions should have more of a home-court advantage, they’re more familiar with the U.S. Cellular Center, and Jordan Bohannon doesn’t want to end his high school career without a state tournament appearance. Expect a show from him.
