Lemont took care of business on their home court against Tinley Park on Tuesday night recording a 62-45 victory. Their star PJ Pipes played well and an array of role players did their part in the win. Let’s breakdown all the prospects in this scouting report.
PG PJ Pipes (Lemont – 2017)
It starts and ends with Pipes for Lemont. The strong and athletic 6’2” point guard can really score the basketball. He is a power guard that works his way in the lane with an explosive first step and finishes well in the paint with both strength and acrobatics. Closed the night with an and-1 where he scooped it in with his off hand. He did miss a couple bunnies around the hoop through contact, but overall this is a strength of his. Pipes is a plus mid-range shooter that showed he is extending his range as he hit a couple threes including one pulling up and another off the catch. This makes him an even more dynamic threat on the offensive end. The biggest area of development that I liked was his passing. Especially early in the game he made several great reads including a pick and pop dish for a jumper. Several of his other passes that should have been assists weren’t converted by his bigs. Overall displayed a nice feel for the game. He did well defensively getting a few steals. Pipes had 19 points, 2 assists, and 3 steals. Needs to be on the mid-major radar.
SF Austin Tittle (Lemont – 2016)
The 6’5” forward is an outstanding passer! Tittle made several great finds out of the high post in almost a point forward role. He also is a plus outlet passer that started several fast breaks that ended in layups. Solid skill level, rebounds well for size, and can shoot it a little. He is committed to Lewis for baseball. Finished with 9 points.
PF Rory Cunningham (Lemont – 2016)
Cunningham is a 6’7” lengthy post that is a quality area rebounder high pointing the ball. Hit a pick and pop three early in the game. Runs the floor well. Potential defensively with length and decent mobility. He is a bit thin which hurts him finishing around the rim. With some added strength could be a quality D3/NAIA player in a couple years. Cunningham had 7 points.
PF Nick Wisz (Lemont – 2016)
At 6’3” he is an undersized post that isn’t overly athletic, but just gets the job done. Tough and crafty around the hoop. Got to the charity stripe. He had 12 points.
SG Dwayne Lewis (Tinley Park – 2016)
Lewis is a 6’1” lefty combo guard that is angular. He is best in the transition game where he can use his quickness. Hit a corner three, but missed several other jumpers with a long release. He had 9 points.
