The Poets scored a 57-45 victory over Lake Clifton on Friday that, per The Baltimore Sun, lets them stay in second place in the Baltimore City Division 1 league. Dunbar’s got one game left in the season, which would be against Poly on Monday.
A win in that contest puts the Poets into the championship match-up against Poly. Dunbar now is 7-4 in league action while the Engineers are 11-0. The Sun said that a loss in Monday’s game would let the Poets finish the regular season in a tie with City (also 7-5) but the winner of the draw would be determined by whichever team has a better record versus public school opponents.
In addition, The Sun reported that this game was stopped with 39 seconds left after “an altercation occurred on the baseline between fans and some Dunbar cheerleaders.”
Dashawn Phillips paced Dunbar with 21 points, and Tremaine Tazewell pitched in with 20 points to carry most of the offensive load as the Poets improved to 14-6.
Ben Carter led Lake Clifton with nine points as the Lakers struggled on offense throughout. The loss dropped them to 11-9 this season, as per The Sun.
