THE TEAMS YOU SHOULD WATCH: Dunbar, New Town, Carver-Baltimore City, Western Tech
WHY YOU SHOULD WATCH THEM: This region will likely belong to New Town or Dunbar. New Town won the Baltimore County championship this week, beating a good Woodlawn team in the title game. The Titans have several players who can score and are good on offense — a rough combination for any team to go against. They won the Class 1A state title last year and beat Lake Clifton doing it, and any time a Baltimore County team tops a city team, that’s big news. Plus, coach Mike Daniel has coached in the private school league and the city, so he’s been there and done that. His team comes into the playoffs with an 18-2 record. Dunbar, coached by Cyrus Jones, Sr. (yes, his son is the Alabama football player, Cyrus Jones, Jr.) will make plenty of noise. The Poets made the Baltimore City Division I final, set for Wednesday night. They were 15-6 and are a young team who will get help from senior Tremaine Tazewell. Dunbar relies a lot on underclassmen. Carver and Western Tech both have played well at times but Dunbar and New Town will likely be too much for both teams.
