Continue ReadingIt’s been a rough season for the Carroll Tigers so far this season, but perhaps Friday night’s 71-65 win at Bondurant-Farrar will get them into a groove.
The Tigers avenged a five point loss from earlier this season to the Bluejays, and the two split the season series – each team winning on the other’s court.
Carroll’s junior guard Kolby Molinsky – Iowa’s 22nd-ranked 2017 – justified the fact that he was the highest ranked player in this game. Dropping one dime after another, and scoring a game high 26 points – 18 in the second half.
If you don't watch out Kolby Molinsky will drop a dime on ya. Carroll G is passing the ball very well tonight #iahsbkb

Bondurant-Farrar was led by Iowa’s 90th-ranked 2016 Dylon Storey, he scored 21 points and was sensational for much of third and fourth quarters, going back-and-forth with Molinsky, and raining in 15 points in the second half alone.
The Tigers (5-8) will look to keep their momentum going Tuesday when they host ADM. Bondurant-Farrar (7-7) will look to get back in the win column Tuesday when they host Winterset.

Carroll Player Evals
2017 Kolby Molinsky, 6’2 G
He was sensational tonight, and his top-25 ranking in the 2017 class (No.22) is likely secure after the stellar effort. His shooting was always a strong suit in year’s past, and though his shot is still a strength, it appears his passing prowess has improved greatly – and at times he dazzled with his looks to wide-open teammates. He was the catalyst and the leader for his team tonight, and sunk 12-13 free-throws for good measure.
2017 Dayton Ross, 5’11 G
The Tigers’ leading scorer coming into the game (19.3), Ross has exponentially risen to become one of 2017’s best guards, and will certainly rise in our next installment of rankings (currently 88th). His arms are immensely long, and he uses that to get off clean looks after blowing by his defender. His great length aids him defensively to deflect passes and disrupt passing lanes. Great upper body strength allows for him to absorb contact extraordinarily well. He’s turning into a very nice player.
2018 Cooper Ross, 5’7 G
Yet another Ross is coming up through the ranks, and he’s a good one. Still undeveloped physically, it’s a wonder to think how good he can be when his body matures. His tight handle and precise shooting are his strengths. And he’s clearly a confident player, which paid dividends in the third quarter when he splashed in a go-ahead triple late. He’s a bit trigger-happy, and could stand to take better shots. But the young guard’s pros certainly outweigh his cons.
2017 Austin Schirck, 6’6 C
The tallest player on the Tigers’ roster, Schirck was a game-changer tonight. It was just his fourth straight start after coming off the bench early in the season, and he rebounded exceptionally well. He blocked at least two shots, each in critical junctures of the game, and with a little work this offseason, he could become a formidable prospect in the 2017 class.
Bondurant-Farrar Player Evals
2016 Dylon Storey, 6’4 SG
He was the most physically gifted player on the court, he’s tall and lean with an ability to see over defenders and get off clean looks offensively. There was a lid on the bucket in the first half for Storey, our 90th-ranked 2016. But He caught fire in the second half when he scored 15 of his team high 21. He will make for a serviceable D3 or NAIA player next season.
2016 Payton Duit, 6’1 PG
One of the more polished players I’ve seen this season, Duit is as steady as they come. He’s a sound point guard, who brings the fundamentals, and is athletic enough to be looked at by D3 and NAIA programs. He’s a smart player who makes the right pass, and can sometimes dazzle with his looks. He never forces offensively and picks his moments. Smart, savvy, aware, and patient would best describe this hidden gem.
2018 John Carlson, 6’3 SF
A bouncy wing, who is more adept in the paint than on the perimeter. He has great elevation on his mid-range, and with a little work he could make that an unstoppable part of his game.
2018 Seth Moeller, 6’1 G
A rangy and lean guard, he was great on defense tonight when he was in man-to-man situations. He was rebounding well from the guard position and has a mature build for being an underclassmen. A promising young prospect for the Bluejays.
