The 5-foot-11 guard is an athlete – a very talented one, who excels at everything he does at Notre Dame, Burlington. But only one sport has reeled in scholarship offers for him so far, and it’s not basketball.
“I haven’t really gotten anything for basketball really. I’ve been getting looked at mostly for football,” said Williams. “I think I’ve gotten a packet from Kirkwood for basketball, and that’s about it.”
Williams – one of the state’s best scorers at 22.6 per game – sports offers from Western Illinois, Northern Iowa, South Dakota State, and Illinois State as a wide receiver. But says he’d be open to listening to basketball interest.
“I haven’t got much for basketball, but if schools started to talk to me I’d listen to them. I don’t really have a favorite sport, I just like them all,” said the talented guard, who defined his playing style to PHI.
“My strengths are getting to the paint, that’s what I like to do is drive, and I think I’ve gotten better at shooting recently, and a better leader as I’ve gotten older. I’m still working a lot on my shooting, it’s the biggest thing I need to work on.”
With much experience, comes much expectation, and Williams is stepping up this season, not only scoring 22.6 points per game, but pulling down 9.3 rebounds, and leading the Nikes is steals, assists, and blocks.
“They’re expecting a lot out of me,” said Williams. “Just because we’re so young, and nobody’s really played as much as I have since my freshman year.”
