Currently Iowa’s 15th-ranked 2017, Wilson had a huge summer with Kingdom Hoops Elite, and has solidified himself as the top threat on one of 4A’s best teams.
Division I programs have started to take notice.
“I’ve been in contact with South Dakota, and North Dakota has called my coach, and LeHigh called. I’ve gotten a few letters from Wisconsin. I’ve gotten letters from Sioux Falls. Those are pretty much it,” said Wilson.
“LeHigh and North Dakota are in contact with my coach, and then me and the South Dakota coach were texting and talked on the phone a little bit during the live period last July.”
Still offer-less, Wilson says there’s one school in particular he feels may be first to extend him a scholarship.
“To me personally I think South Dakota has shown the most interest. I plan on taking some visits either during the spring or the summer,” said Wilson, who is mostly focused on simply improving his game right now.
“I’m not really concerned too much about recruitment right now. I’m working on getting better right now and stepping my game up and taking it to the next level.”
The 6-foot-6 forward has been playing in the post most of his career, and is working now to extend his game out to the perimeter.
“I’ve seen the most improvements in my ability to score. Last year I was just getting dish-downs from my teammates, and this year I feel like I can score on my own basically,” said Wilson.
“I’m working to improve my jump-shot and my ability to take people of the dribble. I’d like to eventually play small forward on the perimeter.”
He’s averaging a team high 15.1 points per game, and leads all of 4A with 10.8 rebounds per game. Aside from his production statistically, he’s asked to be a team leader this season too.
“I think I’m playing a pretty big role, me and Nate (Lee), because we were the only guys coming back. So everyone is really counting on us to lead the way,” said Wilson. “They just ask me to set the tone defensively, mentally just getting everyone in the game, and making sure my teammates are right.”
