Continue ReadingA big game in the North Iowa Cedar League held up to expectations on Tuesday night, with Class 1A No. 6 Jesup beating Class 2A No. 9 Aplington-Parkersburg 58-52 behind a big effort from 2017 guard Ethan Wyant.
Both teams got off to a slow shooting start and Jesup took a 22-19 lead into the break.
The second half was an entirely different story, with A-P guard Nick Waller putting together a fantastic third quarter, scoring 12 of his team-high 18 points in the quarter and pulling the game into a 35-all tie after the third quarter.
The fourth quarter was the Ethan Wyant show, with the Jesup guard scoring 11 points and converting all four of his free throws down the stretch to help ice the game.
Jesup (10-1, 9-1) was led by Ethan Wyant, who had a game-high 20 points (19 in the second half) and 10 rebounds. Tyler Lienau added 16 points for the Jayhawks.
Aplington-Parkersburg (7-2, 7-2) was led by Nick Waller with 18 points. Cade Alberts and Nick Ellis each added 10.
