Murrell may be the best shooter in the state – after connecting on 50 percent of his attempts lat season, he’s shooting 54 percent from deep so far this season.
Will Carius, 23.4 PPG A do-it-all wing for Pleasant Valley, the senior was integral to the Spartans’ title game run last season. The Northern Michigan commit is a 6-foot-6 small forward who seems determined to get his team back to Wells Fargo Arena this March.
Jordan Bohannon, 23.3 PPG The Hawkeye commit is a great scorer because he’s an elite shooter. Another guy who could be considered the best shooter in the state, the 6-foot senior can create his own looks and doesn’t need much space to get his shot off.
Bailey Basala, 22.5 PPG He’s only played in two games so far but he’s making his presence felt already. The junior wing (6’6) is in North Scott now after transferring in from Illinois. He’s our 5th-ranked 2017.
Dontre English, 21.9 PPG Last season the 6-foot-1 guard was scoring at a high clip for Woodward Academy, and he led that team to its first ever state tournament berth. His transition to 4A (Des Moines North) has been smooth, and he’s a bull with the ball, scoring most of his buckets at the rim.
Jailen Billings, 21.8 PPG The junior guard was second fiddle to Iowa Mr. Basketball Daniel Tillo last season at Sioux City North, and it’s clear that he has taken the reigns this season. He’s not only a dominant scorer, but he also chips in with 4.3 assists, and 3.6 steals per game.
Joe Wieskamp, 21.7 PPG Perhaps the most exciting prospect in the state right now, Wieskamp is not only scoring in bunches for Muscatine, but unlike last season he has them winning games too. The future Hawkeye is averaging 9 rebounds, and 3.6 blocks aiding his team to an early 5-1 mark.
Tony Bonner, 21.3 PPG Bonner is one of the state’s best bigs, and he and his CB Lincoln Lynx have an eye on a state tournament berth come March. The 6-foot-7 power forward is averaging 9.3 rebounds, and 2.7 blocks per game to help his team to an early 6-1 mark – their only loss against Minnesota power Champlin Park.
Aaron Hauser, 19.6 PPG One bright spot in Marshalltown’s 1-8 start has been the senior guard. He leads the team not only in scoring, but assists, and steals too.
Tra’Von Fagan, 18.5 PPG A Martin Brothers and Cedar Falls product, Fagan sports Division II offers right now, and though he plays in the post for the Tigers, he proved his adeptness on the wing last offseason on the grassroots circuit. A 6-foot-5 small forward who may not be done receiving offers.
